Eve’s Daughters

‘And all the crowds that had assembled for this spectacle, when they saw what had taken place, returned home beating their breasts. And all his acquaintances and the women who had followed him from Galilee stood at a distance watching these things.’ Luke 23:48,49

Who were they, these women whose silence shouted, whose voicelessness spoke?

A language as large as the love that slew their fear.

Guards gambled, crowds jeered, disciples fled—

And they stood, close to the cross; their posture of presence, their language of love

Eve reached for wisdom that was not hers to grasp.

Her daughters wait as the foolishness of wisdom envelopes them; the knowledge of good and evil now revealed in the mystery of God’s silent timing.

Without grasping, they know, without straining, they see—and drawn close by nothing but love, they hear.
